Overview:
Given the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on Arizona’s agricultural and food industries as well as the non-agricultural and non-food industries, we will estimate its impact with 2020 data relative to our estimated 2019 baseline. That information is crucial to stakeholders in Arizona and fills in the gap since the last such study was published using 2014 data. We are identifying both opportunities and threats to Arizona subsectors of the agricultural and food industries – specialty crop subsectors in particular – in an effort to increase broadly-defined system-wide resiliency to better prepare for unexpected, future economic shocks. Using 2019 data for Arizona, we will estimate the contribution of the overall agricultural and food industries to the state of Arizona’s entire economy. Given that vital context, we will then estimate the contribution of specialty crops within the overall agricultural and food industries.
Using 2020 data for Arizona, we will estimate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the agricultural and food industries as well as the non-agricultural and non-food industries.
